Review: Panasonic NCR18650B 3.7V 3400mAh Rechargeable Li-ion Batteries

These are the real deal. I’ve purchased a couple different 18650 batteries from different vendors and these are the only ones that actually last as long as a 3400mAh battery should last. I haven’t empirically tested their battery life, but I can tell you that the batteries that came with a cheapo headlamp I purchased last around 30 minutes (short enough time for me to notice how junky the non-Panasonics were), and I can’t tell you how long the Panasonics last because they last so long I stop paying attention. If I had the patience and equipment, I would scientifically test these for you and provide hard numbers, but I’m lazy and too poor for whatever I imagine battery-testing equipment costs. All you need to know is that these last a really long time on a single charge.

Great Batteries – No Nipples

Okay there’s one more thing you should know. I’m not a super battery expert so I didn’t realize that this particular model doesn’t have a tip on the + end of the cell (you know how a standard AA battery has a flat end and a nipply end? This one’s missing the “nipple”). Fear not, it’s an easy fix if you’re comfortable soldering, just dab some flux and a bead of solder on the end and you’ve just successfully nipplized your battery.
